Erntedankfest

Margarethen am Moos is a small and charming town in Niederösterreich (Lower Austria).

(castellano debajo)

It is in the south-east area from Vienna, not more than 20 minutes by car. Though you may neither find it in a tourist guide nor find a supermarket there, a beautiful Palace, an old Romanic style Church (St. Margaretha built in the 12th century), a delightful restaurant and its friendly inhabitants are waiting to welcoming you. Isn´t that what is all about? (Ok, ok, I admit part of our family lives there).

Every year at the end of September the ´Erntedankfest´ is being celebrated. What does it mean? It is a celebration to thank God for the good Harvest. A Harvest Festival like it takes place all over Austria during September or October. Austrian agriculture has a long tradition and is still an important industry and a remarkable part of its population still works in Austrian fields. Therefore celebrating and thanking for the harvest is one of Austria’s cultural assets.

The Erntedankfest is usually organized by the Catholic Church and a lot of people are needed who work as volunteers to make this event both special and successful.

The Harvest fest is a moment of community, a moment to be grateful not only for the products from the nature but also for all the good things that happened during last year, a moment of prayer.

But that´s just a moment because after the massive Mass comes the time for fun! What else have you thought it was about? Off course good food, drink and music! Come and see it by yourself:

Erntedankfest
